FREEWAY LANE CLOSURES
FREEWAY LANE CLOSURES ARE REQUIRED FOR NUMEROUS REASONS SUCH AS PLACING PAVEMENT MARKERS, STRIPING, REPLACEMENT OF GUARD RAIL, REPAIR OF MEDIAN BARRIER, PAVEMENT REPAIR, ETC. AS THE FREEWAY SYSTEM CONTINUES TO GROW, THE FREQUENCY OF LANE CLOSURES PROBABLY WILL INCREASE. IN METROPOLITAN AREAS LIKE LOS ANGELES THE REDUCTION IN CAPACITY WILL UNDOUBTEDLY CAUSE SOME CONGESTION. THE OUTLINED PROCEDURE WILL ENABLE FIELD PERSONNEL TO SCHEDULE LANE CLOSURES AT A TIME WHEN THEY WILL CAUSE THE LEAST INCONVENIENCE TO TRAFFIC. IF CONGESTION DEVELOPS, IT WILL ALSO GIVE FIELD PERSONNEL A TOOL FOR EVALUATING THE EXTENT OF DELAY TO THE MOTORIST. THIS WILL PROVIDE OBJECTIVE DATA FOR MAKING DECISIONS ON SUSPENDING WORK AND RE-SCHEDULING OPERATIONS. /AUTHOR/
