A TEASPOONFUL OF SALT PER SQUARE METER /IN SWEDISH/
THE USE OF SALT HAS PROVED TO BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD TO PREVENT SKIDDING. THIS METHOD IS STILL OFTEN CRITICIZED, BUT FEARS ARE EXAGGERATED. THE SALT CERTAINLY CONTRIBUTES TO THE FORMATION OF RUST, BUT IS NOT THE MAIN CAUSE OF IT: DAMAGE TO THE VEGETATION IS LIMITED TO THE ROAD SHOULDERS. IN SWEDEN, THE CONSUMPTION OF SALT IS VERY SMALL, AND SLUSH WAS SHOWN TO CONTAIN ONLY 0.1 PER CENT OF SALT IN ADDITION TO STONE DUST, BITUMEN, AND RUBBER. /TRRL/
