THE SHORT LIFE OF A HOLE IN THE STREET
CHICAGO'S NEW STREET MAINTENANCE SYSTEM USES AN IBM CARD, A TELETYPE SYSTEM, A TWO-WAY-RADIO COMMUNICATIONS NET AND SOME SPECIAL FORMS TO CODE WORK PERFORMED FOR DATA PROCESSING. THE SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED THAT PROVIDES ONE DAY MAINTENANCE SERVICE ON STREET REPAIRS AND KEEPS CLOSE TABS ON MAINTENANCE COSTS. THE PUNCH CARD RECORDS KEEP TRACK OF EQUIPMENT USAGE ON CITY MAINTENANCE WORK.
