SIGNS, LIKE SOLDIERS, TEND TO FADE AWAY
THE OVERALL REPLACEMENT OF SIGNS WHICH, DESPITE NORMAL MAINTENANCE, HAVE REACHED THE POINT OF OBSOLESCENCE, IS RECOMMENDED. THE WORK SHOULD BE SCHEDULED ON A STEP BY STEP BASIS AND ACCOMPLISHED BY THE REGULAR SIGN SHOP AND SIGN CREW PERSONNEL. IN MOST INSTANCES THE METAL ENDURES BEYOND THE LIFE OF THE BACKGROUND AND LEGENDS AND CAN BE CLEANED AND USED AGAIN. A COMPLETE RE-SIGNING IS POSSIBLE WITH THE PRUCHASE OF ONLY A FIRST INCREMENT OF NEW METAL TO PERMIT THE FIRST REPLACEMENTS TO BE PREPARED WITHOUT REMOVAL OF ANY SIGNS FROM SERVICE UNTIL THEY CAN BE RESTORED IMMEDIATELY. THIS METHOD WAS FOUND ECONOMICAL FOR THE COMPLETE RE-SIGNING OF THE OHIO TURNPIKE.
