THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE DRIVER AS REGARDS SAFETY

COMPORTEMENT DU CONDUCTEUR VIS-A-VIS DE LA SECURITE

THE AUTHOR STUDIES THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE DRIVER UNDER THREE DIFFERENT CONDITIONS: SPEED, AGGRESSIVENESS AND EXASPERATION TOGETHER WITH HIS RESPONSIBILITY. AS REGARDS SPEED LIMITS, THERE ARE THREE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. ALLOCATION OF A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FREEDOM, GENERALIZED LIMITATION WITH WIDE VARIATIONS ACCORDING TO THE AREA. URBAN AREA, SECONDARY ROADS, 4-LANE HIGHWAYS OR MOTOR WAYS AND STRICT RELATIVELY UNIFORM LIMITATIONS (FAIRLY LOW LIMITATION FOR ALL ROADS AND EVENTUALLY MOTORWAYS). THE PROBLEM OF AGGRESSIVENESS ARISES IN OVERTAKING MANOEUVRES AND DRIVING AT CONSTANT SPEED AT JUNCTIONS. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THAT RIDERS OF HIGH-POWERED MOTOR CYCLES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE BETWEEN TWO QUEUES OF VEHICLES AND ASTRIDE THE DOTTED LINE. EXASPERATION IS THE THIRD POINT STUDIED. IT CAN BE CONTROLLED BY PERSONAL TRAINING BY GETTING INTO THE HABIT OF RESPECTING THE LOWEST SPEED LIMITS. EXASPERATION CAUSED BY DELAY CAN BE AVOIDED IF MORE FLEXIBLE TIME TABLES WERE ADOPTED AND REST PERIODS TAKEN DURING DRIVING.
