THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE SELF-HARDENING CHARACTERISTICS OF ASHES FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES AND THE VARIATION OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS IN ASHES TAKEN FROM THE SAME SOURCE AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THE INFLUENCE OF DEGREE OF COMPACTION AND COMPACTING MOISTURE CONTENT ON SELF-HARDENING IS ALSO CONSIDERED.
