THE USE OF AGGREGATES HAVING BEEN SUBJECTED TO A ONE CRUSHING PASS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS /IN GERMAN/

AFTER RECALLING THAT IN PRACTICE THE CLASSIFICATION OF CRUSHED NATURAL STONE ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF CRUSHING PASSES IS NOT VALID, THE AUTHOR EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCEPTING ADEQUATE TOLERANCES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS. THE TERMS "GRAVEL" THE "REFINED GRAVEL" DEFINE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF AGGREGATE SATISFACTORILY. THE MINERALOGICAL NATURE (E.G. THE NAME OF THE STONE) MUST BE MENTIONED TOGETHER WITH THE TYPE OF AGGREGATE. CURRENT SIEVING PROCESSES USED AS CLASSIFICATION METHODS IN QUARRIES AND IN THE LABORATORY DIFFER; THESE DIFFERENCES MUST BE KNOWN TO ENABLE THE DEVIATIONS TO BE EVALUATED IN RELATION TO TOLERANCES. THE REJECTS AND SHAPE OF THE GRAINS ARE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC CRITERIA TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. EVEN IF TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR BINDER COURSES PRESCRIBE THE USE OF GRAVEL HAVING GONE THROUGH A SINGLE PASS, IN RACTICE REFINED GRAVEL SHOULD BE USED, AND ADEQUATE TOLERANCES RESPECTED TO OBTAIN A HIGH-QUALITY BITUMINOUS MATERIAL. /LCPC/RRL/
