A COMPARISON OF RESULTS OF SIEVING PROCEDURES IN SOUNDNESS TESTS ON MAINE SANDS
A SERIES OF TESTS TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF THE MAGNESIUM SULFATE SOUNDNESS TEST ON MAINE SANDS WERE PERFORMED BY BOTH PROCEDURES SPECIFIED IN THE A.S.T.M. TENTATIVE METHOD OF TEST FOR SOUNDNESS OF AGGREGATES BY USE OF SODIUM SULFATE OR MAGNESIUM SULFATE (C88-41-T). SIXTY- FOUR SAND SPECIMENS FROM THIRTY-TWO SOURCES WELL DISTRIBUTED GEOGRAPHICALLY OVER THE STATE OF MAINE WERE USED. A HIGH CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TWO PROCEDURES IS SHOWN.
