THE FISCAL RECOGNITION OF RESTORATION OBLIGATIONS IN THE PIT AND QUARRY INDUSTRY
THE COST OF THE RESTORATION AND REINSTATEMENT OF WORKED OPEN-CUT QUARRIES IN THE PIT AND QUARRY INDUSTRY ARISE AS A RULE ONLY AFTER THE COMPLETE EXCAVATION OF THE DEPOSIT TO BE WORKED. HENCE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE TIMELY PROVISION FOR FINANCIAL RESERVES TO MEET THE COST OF RESTORATION. THE COST ITEMS WHICH ARISE ARE DEFINED, AND THE CONCEPT OF LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT COSTS IS INTRODUCED IN LIEU OF THE CONCEPT OF RESTORATION COSTS THAT HAS HITHERTO BEEN EMPLOYED. ATTENTION IS CALLED TO THE QUESTION OF COMPETENCE OF THE AUTHORITIES, AND THE LEGAL PROBLEMS OF RESTORATION AND REINSTATEMENT ARE CONSIDERED. NEXT, POSSIBILITIES FOR THE UTILIZATION OF THE REMAINING PIT, AFTER EXTRACTION OF THE MINERAL, ARE INDICATED AND DESCRIBED AS AN EXAMPLE OF RESTORATION OPERATIONS. /AUTHOR/
