POLYMER ADHESIVES - 1970
RAPID GROWTH AND DIVERSIFICATION OF POLYMER ADHESIVES ARE REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED. POLYQUINOXALINE POLYMERS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED THAT AGE WELL AT HIGH TEMPERATURES. A CERAMIC ADHESIVE FOR METAL BONDING HAS BEEN PROPOSED CONSISTING OF BOROSILICATE GLASS MIXED WITH A METAL ADDITIVE. POLYBENZIMIDAZOLES ARE SUPERIOR AT LOW TEMPERATURES. POLYETHER-POLYURETHANES, PARTICULARLY BASED ON TETRAHYDROFURAN, ARE OUTSTANDING AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES. XYLENE FORMALDEHYDE RESINS WERE FOUND USEFUL AS PLASTICIZING DILUENTS FOR AN EPOXY ADHESIVE. THE USE OF AN ACRYLIC POLYMER AS A FLEXIBILIZER IN AN EPOXY ADHESIVE COMPOSITION IS CLAIMED. NEW EPOXY CURING AGENTS HAVE BEEN PROPOSED. THE DISCUSSION EXTENDS TO STRUCTURAL ADHESIVES, PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVES, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT SOLIDS ADHESIVES, RUBBER-BASED ADHESIVES, SURFACE TREATMENT AND ADHESION THEORY.
