ACCELERATED OUTDOOR WEATHERABILITY TESTING OF PIGMENTS IN PAINT
THE EQUATORIAL MOUNT WITH MIRRORS FOR ACCELERATION-WITH WATER SPRAY (EMMAQUA), HAS BEEN EVALUATED AS AN ACCELERATED TEST DEVICE IN DETERMINING THE WEATHERABILITY OF PIGMENTED THERMOSET ACRYLIC COATINGS. THE EMMAQUA CANNOT BE USED IN AN ABSOLUTE WAY FOR PREDICTION OF SERVICE LIFE OR FOR QUANTITATIVE PREDICTION OF THE RELATIVE PERFORMANCE OF TWO PIGMENTATIONS USING 5 DEGREED SOUTH FLORIDA EXPOSURE AS STANDARD. THE UNIT HAS BEEN FOUND VERY RELIABLE, HOWEVER, IN PROVIDING QUALITATIVE INFORMATION REGARDING RELATIVE WEATHERABILITY OF COATINGS. IT IS CONSIDERED USEFUL AS A TIME-SAVING ADJUNCT TO SCREENING PROGRAMS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PIGMENTS FOR HIGH FASTNESS COATINGS. /AUTHOR/
