QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF UNCOMBINED MAGNESIUM OXIDE IN PORTLAND CEMENT CLINKER BY X-RAY DIFFRACTOMETRY
A QUANTITATIVE X-RAY DIFFRACTOMETRIC METHOD USING CORUNDUM AS AN EXTERNAL STANDARD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR ESTIMATING UNCOMBINED MAGNESIUM OXIDE IN HIGH-MAGNESIA CEMENT CLINKERS. FOR THESE CLINKERS, SEPARATION OF THE SILICATE PHASES BY SELECTIVE HYDROLYSIS IS NOT NECESSARY. THE X-RAY METHOD HAS PROVIDED RESULTS REPRODUCIBLE TO PLUS OR MINUS 0.5% AND IT COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH CHEMICAL METHODS. THE NON- DESTRUCTIVE NATURE OF THE TEST AND ITS RAPIDITY ARE THE MAIN ADVANTAGES. /AUTHOR/
