SURVEY OF THE CURRENT USE OF NUCLEAR GAUGES IN THE HIGHWAY FIELD
A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED OF ALL STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS, ON THE USE OF NUCLEAR GAUGES AND OTHER NUCLEAR APPLICATIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR OPERATIONS. THE SCOPE OF THE SURVEY COVERED THE OWNERSHIP OF NUCLEAR GAUGE SYSTEMS BY THE AGENCIES ENGAGED IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION. INFORMATION WAS REQUESTED ON THE MAKE, MODEL, AND USES OF NUCLEAR DEVICES BY THE AGENCIES. REPLIES TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE WERE RECEIVED FROM EACH OF THE FIFTY STATES AND FIFTY-SEVEN OTHER HIGHWAY AGENCIES INCLUDING NINE CANADIAN PROVINCES, TWELVE TOLL AUTHORITIES, AND TWENTY- THREE COUNTIES. TABULATED RESULTS OF THE SURVEY ARE PRESENTED.
