ULTRASONIC THEORY APPLIED TO THE AUTOMATIC INSPECTION OF WELDS
THEORETICAL STUDIES WERE MADE ON THE BEAM PATTERN OF THE TRANSDUCER, THE SCATTERING PATTERN OF THE DEFECT AND THE TRANSMISSION PROPERTIES OF THE PROBE-TO-WELDMENT INTERFACE. THE RESULTS OF THIS STUDY ARE DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF THE DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATIC ULTRASONIC INSPECTION SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM, CONSISTING OF A FLAW DETECTOR, CONTROL UNIT, SCANNING MECHANISM AND DATA RECORDER, IS DESCRIBED. /AUTHOR/
