PROTECTING CONCRETE SURFACES
IN A SERIES OF THREE ARTICLES, THE PROBLEMS OF PROTECTING CONCRETE SURFACES ARE DISCUSSED AND VARIOUS PROTECTIVE COATINGS ARE DESCRIBED. THE FIRST ARTICLE DEALS WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE SURFACE, POINTING OUT THAT THIS IS THE BASIS FOR SUCCESS REGARDLESS OF THE COATING CHOSEN. SEVEN TYPES OF COATINGS ARE MENTIONED: CEMENT-BASED PAINTS, SILICONE TREATMENTS, BITUMINOUS COATINGS, METALLIC COMPOUNDS, SURFACE HARDNERS, AND PLASTIC COATINGS.
