PERFORMANCE OF DUCTILE-IRON PIPE IN SOILS
SPECIMENS OF DUCTILE-IRON PIPE WERE BURIED IN THE FOLLOWING SIX DIFFERENT SOIL ENVIRONMENTS: SAGEMOOR SANDY LOAM, HAGERSTOWN LOAM, CLAY, LAKEWOOD SAND, COASTAL SAND AND TIDAL MARSH. THE TEST SITES ARE DESCRIBED. AFTER EIGHT YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO FIVE DIFFERENT SOILS, IT IS CONCLUDED THAT DUCTILE CAST IRON AND GRAY CAST IRON CORRODE AT NEARLY THE SAME RATE IN THE SAME SOIL, AND THAT THE PATTERN OF CORROSION AND THE NATURE OF THE CORROSIVE PRODUCTS ARE ALSO SIMILAR IN THE SAME SOIL ENVIRONMENT.
