THE DEVELOPMENT OF NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING
THE TECHNOLOGY OF NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING IS STILL IN THE EMBRYONIC STAGE. MUCH PROGRESS IS BEING ACCOMPLISHED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FOLLOWING METHODS: (1) RADIOGRAPHY AND FLUOROSCOPY BY X-RAY, GAMMA RAY AND NEUTRONS, (2) X-RAY DIFFRACTION, X-RAY CRYSTAL ANALYSIS, (3) ELECTRON DIFFRACTION, (4) X-RAY SPECTROSCOPY, (5) ULTRASONIC METHODS, (6) EDDY CURRENT METHODS, (7) ELECTRICAL AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TESTS, (8) THE USE OF SURFACE PENETRANTS, AND (9) THE USE OF MAGNETIC TESTS. THERE IS A NEED FOR NATIONAL NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING ORGANIZATIONS, TRAINING OF PERSONNEL, RESEARCH, AND EXTENDING THE USE OF THIS TECHNOLOGY IN GREAT BRITAIN.
