EXPLOSIVES, A SURVEY OF TECHNICAL ADVANCES
THE TERM 'BLASTING AGENT' IS USED FOR FUEL-SENSITIZED AN (AMMONIUM NITRATE) EXPLOSIVES WHERE THE FUEL ALONE IS NON- EXPLOSIVE AND THE (CAP-INSENSITIVE) PRODUCT NEEDS POWERFUL BOOSTERING TO DETONATE IT. THE NEW AGENTS, CALLED 'SLURRY EXPLOSIVES' OR 'SLURRY BLASTING AGENTS' ARE LESS HAZARDOUS THAN CONVENTIONAL EXPLOSIVES. THEY CAN BE DETONATED EITHER BY THE CONVENTIONAL EXPLOSIVES OR BY ALUMINUM, SULFUR AND SOLID HYDROCARBON. THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES THEIR MANUFACTURE, USE AND GENERAL ADVANTAGES. /AUTHOR/
