STUDIES IN PAINTING STRUCTURAL STEEL
THE PROGRAM AND SERVICES OF THE STEEL STRUCTURES PAINTING COUNCIL ARE DESCRIBED. THIS IS A NON-PROFIT, IMPARTIAL ORGAINZATION FOR RESEARCH ON THE USE OF COATINGS TO PROTECT STRUCTURAL STEEL. ITS ACTIVITIES INCLUDE RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS. PROJECT WORK HAS THESE FACETS: A COOPERATIVE PROGRAM, FIELD TESTS AND LABORATORY WORK. ONE COOPERATIVE FEDERATION-COUNCIL STUDY SHOWS THE EFFECTS OF PAINTING WET OR COLD STEEL. ANOTHER REVEALS INFORMATION AND NEW INSIGHTS ON OPTIMUM PAINT FILM THICKNESS. A HIGHWAY-STRUCTURE PAINTING SURVEY HAS RESULTED IN A COMPREHENSIVE SERIES OF RECOMMENDATION FOR THE SELECTION AND USE OF PROPER PAINT SYSTEMS. A WIDE VARIETY OF RESEARCH PROJECTS CONTINUES, AND RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED FOR PROCEDURES AND SPECIFICATIONS TO FACILITATE GOOD PAINTING PRACTICES. THE COUNCIL'S LABORATORIES AND HEADQUARTERS ARE LOCATED AT MELLON INSTITUTE IN PITTSBURGH, PA. /AUTHOR/
