DETERIORATION ASSOCIATED WITH PAINTED MARKINGS ON ASPHALT PAVEMENT
A STUDY WAS CONDUCTED AT THE U.S. NAVAL CIVIL ENGINEERING LABORATORY, PORT HUENEME, CALIF., TO DETERMINE THE BASIC CAUSES OF EARLY FAILURE OF AIRFIELD MARKING PAINTS AND THE DETERIORATION OF UNDERLYING SLURRY SEAL AND ASPHALTIC PAVE- MENT ASSOCIATED WITH THESE PAINTS. STATISTICAL ANALYSES WERE MADE OF THE EFFECTS OF SUCH VARIABLES AS RESIN, REFLECTIVITY , AROMATICITY AND BOILING RANGE OF SOLVENT, AND THICKNESS OF PAINT FILM ON' /1/ CRACKING OF SLURRY SEAL ALONG THE EDGE OF STRIPES, /2/ LIFTING OF SLURRY SEAL, AND /3/ PAINT DETERIORATION ON UNSLURRIED ASPHALT. /AUTHOR/
