THE USE OF EPOXY ADHESIVES WITH CONCRETE
THIS PAPER DEALS BRIEFLY WITH THE CHEMISTRY OF EPOXY ADHESIVES, IN SOMEWHAT GREATER DETAIL WITH THEIR USES AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, THE MATERIALS ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR USE, WITH EXPERIMENTAL WORK DONE IN THE MINISTRY OF WORKS LABORATORY, CHRISTCHURCH, AND FINALLY WITH THEIR PRACTICAL APPLICATION. THE WORK DONE IN THE FIELD HAS TO DATE BEEN UNIFORMLY SUCCESSFUL, THERE BEING NO SIGNS OF FAILURE OF DETERIORATION ANYWHERE. HOWEVER, EPOXIES ARE NOT A CURE-ALL AND CANNOT IMPROVE ALREADY POOR CONCRETE. IN VIEW OF THE LIMITED INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON GLUE-CONCRETE JOINTS AND THE INITIAL PRESENCE OF CREEP IN THE JOINT WHICH INDICATES THE UNRELIABILITY OF SHORT TERM TESTS, IT WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED ADVISABLE TO CARRY PRIMARY STRESSES WITH AN EPOXY JOINT WITHOUT COMPREHENSIVE TESTING.
