USE OF MINERAL WOOL FOR PREVENTING FROST PENETRATION IN ROADS
TESTS WITH A DRY MINERAL WOOL LAYER HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT ON A TEST ROAD IN AN ATTEMPT TO DECREASE THE FROST PENETRATION INTO THE GROUND. FOUR DIFFERENT THICKNESSES OF THE LAYER WERE USED- 3CM, 7.5CM, 9.5CM, AND 13.5CM. THE FREEZING INDEX DURING THE FROST SEASON 1962-63 WAS 1,146 DEGREE-DAYS CENTIGRADE /OR ABOUT 2,050 DEGREE-DAYS FAHRENHEIT/. THE INFLUENCE OF THE MINERAL WOOL LAYER ON THE PENETRATION OF THE FROST LINE INTO THE ROAD AND THE THAWING OF THE FROZEN PART OF THE ROAD DURING THE ACTUAL FROST SEASON IS DESCRIBED IN THE PAPER. /AUTH/
