CONSTRUCTION OF OHIO'S FIRST PRESTRESSED- CONCRETE BRIDGE
FORTY-FIVE PRECAST CONCRETE BEAMS, EACH HAVING AN OVERALL LENGTH OF 46 FT., WERE PRESTRESSED BY THE PRETNESIONED METHOD. THE BEAMS WERE CAST ON THE JOB SITE AND NOT IN A CENTRAL CASTING YARD. THE CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE USED IS NOT SPECTACULAR BUT IS SIGNIFICANT FOR ITS SIMPLICITY. THIS PROJECT SHOWS THAT A CONTRACTOR CAN MAKE A SUCCESS OF HIS FIRST PRESTRESSED-CONCRETE JOB AND THAT PRETENSIONED PRESTRESSING CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT AN ELABORATE AND COSTLY SETUP.
