THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO WORK OUT PHYSICAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE PROCESSES RELATED TO STIFFNESS WHICH OCCUR IN UNBOUND STOCKPILES OF AGGREGATES. PRELIMINARY STUDIES HAVE BEEN MADE BY GOSSOW, AFFELDT AND GERHARDT, WHO HAVE EACH EXAMINED SEPARATE INFLUENCES SUCH AS TENSILE STRESS ABSORPTION CAPACITY, THICKNESS AND STIFFNESS OF THE MATERIAL ON TOP AND DEPENDENCE ON STATE OF STRESS. THESE INDIVIDUAL STUDIES ARE TO BE CORRELATED TO FORM A GENERAL THEORY OF STOCKPILES FROM WHICH REGRESSION LAWS CAN BE DERIVED FOR STATISTICAL PROCESSING OF THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS.
