THE PAPER DESCRIBES PROGRESS MADE IN THE USE OF SYNTHETIC RESINS IN POLYMER-CEMENT CONCRETE (PCC) AND POLYMER-IMPREGNATED CONCRETE (PIC). THE PCC SYSTEM IS MAINLY USED IN CEMENT CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA OF ADMIXTURES FOR INFLUENCING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF FRESH CONCRETE. BETTER CORROSION DURABILITY AND HIGHER RESISTANCE TO WEAR IN ROAD CONCRETE ARE ACHIEVED BY ADDING SYNTHETIC RESINS. NO EMPIRICAL DATA OR COST COMPARISONS ARE AVAILABLE IN THIS AREA. IT IS NOT KNOWN EITHER HOW THESE SUBSTANCES WILL BEHAVE IN THE TIME PERIODS CHARACTERISTIC OF CONSTRUCTION WITHIN THE BASIC SYSTEM OF CEMENT PASTE. THE TOTAL IMPREGNATION OF DRIED PREFABRICATED CONCRETE SECTIONS BY MEANS OF FINAL POLYMERIZATION IN WARM WATER (PIC SYSTEM) HAS PROVED TO BE EFFECTIVE BUT IT CANNOT BE USED, NATURALLY, IN THE CASE OF CONCRETE CARRIAGEWAYS MANUFACTURED IN SITU. A PARTIAL IMPREGNATION INVOLVING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE STRESSED OUTER LAYER, STRENGTH AND RESISTANCE AGAINST FROST AND THAWING SALTS IS HOWEVER POSSIBLE.
