EXECUTION OF MEASUREMENTS ASSOCIATION WITH THE REBUILDING OF A CONCRETE SURFACING WITH A SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION METHOD ON THE HAMBURG-BREMEN MOTORWAY (A1)

A 22 CM THICK CONCRETE SURFACING HAVING A DISTANCE OF 5 M BETWEEN CONTRACTION JOINTS IS BEING LAID ON A SECTION OF THE HAMBURG - BREMEN MOTORWAY ON TOP OF AN OLD CONCRETE SURFACING. THE SURFACING HAS A LIMITED NUMBER OF DOWELS AND THUS DOES NOT CONFORM TO SPECIFICATIONS. MOREOVER IN THE REGION OF THE LARGER CRACKS AND ALONG THE SUBSEQUENTLY PLACED ROADBASE FOR THE EDGE STRIPS FOIL HAS BEEN INCORPORATED TO AVOID CRACKING. THERE IS NO REGULATING COURSE BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW CONCRETE SURFACING. IN ORDER TO STUDY THE SUPPORT PROPERTIES OF THIS NEW TYPE OF SYSTEM, THE DEFORMATION OF THE OLD SURFACING IS TO BE EXAMINED AT THE SAME POINTS AFTER INCORPORATION OF THE NEW SURFACING. IT IS ALSO INTENDED TO MEASURE THE OPENING OF THE JOINT AT A NUMBER OF JOINTS. FOR THE THEORETICAL STUDY A METHOD OF CALCULATION IS AVAILABLE FOR WHICH IT IS ESSENTIAL TO KNOW THE SUPPORT BEHAVIOUR OF THE OLD SURFACING AND THE DEGREE OF BONDING ACTION.
