EFFECTIVENESS OF GLARE SCREENS

AVAILABLE LITERATURE ON GLARE SCREENS WAS REVIEWED AND SELECTED INSTALLATIONS WERE INSPECTED. IT WAS FOUND THAT GLARE SCREENS ARE EFFECTIVE BUT THAT WARRANTS HAVE NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR THEIR USE. EXPANDED METAL MESHES ARE THE MOST SATISFACTORY OF THE AVAILABLE ALTERNATIVES, AND A MODULAR SYSTEM OF ERECTION IS PREFERRED. POSSIBLE AREAS FOR ADDITIONAL RESEARCH INCLUDED DEVELOPMENT OF WARRANTS AND EVALUATION OF THE INTERACTION OF GLARE SCREENS AND FLEXIBLE MEDIAN BARRIERS. /FHWA/
