EVOLUTION IN THE SHRINKAGE OF CONCRETE AS A FUNCTION OF THE MIX-DESIGN AND AGE OF THE LATTER

L'EVOLUTION DU RETRAIT DU BETON EN FONCTION DE SA COMPOSITION ET DE L'AGE

RECOMMENDATIONS, GIVEN BY THE COMITE EUROPEEN DU BETON (CEB - EUROPEAN COMMITTEE FOR CONCRETE), PRESENT COEFFICIENTS FOR EVALUATING THE SHRINKAGE DEFORMATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE. THE INTRODUCTION OF THESE RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE NEW EDITION OF STANDARD B15-102 RAISED THE QUESTION OF THE APPLICATION OF THESE COEFFICIENTS TO BLAST-FURNACE CEMENT CONCRETE. A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF 26 PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE SAMPLES AND 14 BLAST-FURNACE CEMENT SAMPLES, WAS CONDUCTED. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO TYPES ARE SMALL AND THAT THE COEFFICIENTS PROPOSED COULD BE APPLIED TO BOTH TYPES. ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE USE OF THE CEB COEFFICIENTS CONCERNS ON THE ONE HAND ABSOLUTE DEFORMATIONS (E.G. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CALCULATED AND MEASURED VALUES), ON THE OTHER HAND THE EVOLUTION IN SHRINKAGE AS A FUNCTION OF TIME.
