THE ULTIMATE BEARING CAPACITY OF PILES DETERMINED BY LOAD TESTS
THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE RESULTS OF LOAD TESTS CARRIED OUT ON "FRANKI" PILES. THE DIAMETER OF THE PIPE USED WAS 406 MM AND 520 MM. STATIC PENETRATION TESTS AND DYNAMIC STANDARD PENETRATION TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT DIRECTLY BESIDE THE TEST PILES. THE RESULTS OF THE LOAD TESTS WERE COMPARED ON THE BASIS OF THE ULTIMATE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE PILES, WHICH IN TURN WAS DETERMINED FROM DATA YIELDED BY THE PENETRATION TESTS. BY APPLYING THE SOLUTION FOR THE MOVEMENT OF A RIGID CIRCULAR FOUNDATION OBTAINED WITH THE AID OF THE FINITE-ELEMENT-METHOD, IT WAS POSSIBLE TO CALCULATE YOUNG'S ELASTICITY MODULI FROM THE LOAD-SETTLEMENT GRAPH.
