ANALYSIS OF MULTI-WIRE STRANDS IN TENSION AND COMBINED TENSION AND TORSION
Geometrical relationship of a deformed and undeformed wire strand is dervied through the use of differential geometry. In conjunction with balance laws of forces and moments, the governing equations for computing the strains, elongations and end-rotations of a strand with free or fixed ends and with tensile and torsional loadings are derived. The analytical results are compared favorably with the experimental data conducted on strands of steel and epoxy.
