SHOTCRETE IS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ELEMENT IN RECENT TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION, AND FIBRE CONCRETE IS ESPECIALLY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE OF ITS FAVOURABLE PROPERTIES FOR TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION AND UNDERGROUND RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION. THERE IS HOWEVER A LACK OF PROCEDURES WHICH WOULD FACILITATE THE USE OF FIBRE SHOTCRETE IN PRACTICE. THE VARIOUS WET AND DRY SHOTCRETE METHODS ARE TO BE EXAMINED ON A TEST RIG, AND THE IMPORTANT ADMIXTURES SUCH AS RAPID BINDER, PLASTICIZER ETC, ARE TO BE EXAMINED FOR THEIR EFFECT ON THE CONCRETE. PROBLEMS OF FIBRE ADMIXTURE AND TRANSPORT OF THE CONCRETE TO AND IN SHOTCRETE MACHINES ARE TO BE EXAMINED.
