CHEMICAL ASPECTS AND EFFECTS ON EMISSION WHEN USING GAS-PETROL MIXTURES IN OTTO ENGINES

DIE CHEMISCHEN ASPEKTE UND DIE AUSWIRKUNGEN AUF DIE EMISSIONEN BEIM EINSATZ VON BRENNGAS-BENZIN-GEMISCHEN IN OTTOMOTOREN

THE THESIS INVESTIGATES THE INFLUENCE OF GASES SUCH AS HYDROGEN, METHANE, ETHANE, PROPANE, BUTANE AND ITS MIXTURES ON THE EMISSION OF OTTO ENGINES. ADDITION OF UP TO 10% TO THE FUEL REQUIREMENTS RESULTED IN A DECREASE IN EMISSION OF CARBON MONOXIDE AND HYDROCARBON, BUT THE NITROGEN OXIDE EMISSION RISES, WHICH CAN BE AVOIDED, HOWEVER, BY RETURNING THE EXHAUST GASES WITHOUT INTERFERING WITH OTHER EMISSIONS. FAVOURABLE RESULTS ARE OBTAINED WITH AN ADDITION OF GAS WHOSE MAIN COMPONENT IS ETHANE. INVERSELY, GAS MIXTURES WITH MORE HYDROGEN AND METHANE PRODUCE LESS FAVOURABLE EMISSION VALUES. IT MAKES SENSE TO LOOK FOR A TECHNICAL METHOD WHICH CONVERTS THE FUEL PARTLY INTO CRACKGAS WHICH IS THEN MIXED IN THE INTAKE PIPE.
