LATERAL AND OBLIQUE IMPACT INFLUENCE ON VEHICLE AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION
BECAUSE OF IMPROVED PASSENGER PROTECTION FROM FRONTAL IMPACTS ARISING FROM THE LEGAL OBLIGATION TO WEAR SAFETY BELTS, LATERAL COLLISIONS HAVE ASSUMED INCREASING IMPORTANCE IN SAFETY RESEARCH. THE MOST IMPORTANT CONCLUSION FROM VARIOUS TESTS INVOLVING THE SIMULATION OF ACCIDENTS OF THIS TYPE IS THE FACT THAT THE POSSIBILITIES OF IMPROVED PASSENGER PROTECTION ARE CONSIDERABLY LOWER IN THIS CASE THAN IN THE CASE OF FRONTAL IMPACT COLLISIONS.
