COMPREHENSIVE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE STUDY
THIS REPORT COVERS THE DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM FOR THE FORCE-ACCOUNT MAINTENANCE PROGRAM IN DIVISION R, N.C. ON A FUNCTIONAL BASIS, AND INCLUDES AN ANALYSIS OF THE COLLECTED DATA. FINDINGS INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING: 1. GENERAL DISTRIBUTION OF EXPENDITURES WAS 50%, 25%, 25% FOR LABOR, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS RESPECTIVELY. HOWEVER, THIS CHANGED CONSIDERABLY AMONG DEPARTMENTS AND INDIVIDUAL FUNCTIONS. 2. TWENTY-EIGHT FUNCTIONS, OUT OF 78, ACCOUNTED FOR 90% OF EXPENDITURES. THEIR RELATIVE IMPORTANCE WAS CONSISTANT WITH MOST STATES. 3. MAINTENANCE COST BY HIGHWAY SYSTEM FOR INTERSTATE, PRIMARY, AND SECONDARY-BY LANE-MILE: $1,068, $1,012, $0,532, BY ROAD-MILE: $4,272, $2,205, $1,067.
