WEAR RESISTANCE OF ROAD AGGREGATE - A RATIONAL APPROACH
AS AN AID TO THE SELECTION OF AGGREGATES FOR SKID RESISTANT SURFACES, A REPRESENTATIVE INDIFFERENCE CURVE IS DERIVED WHICH CATEGORIZES THE SUITABILITY OF MATERIALS AS REGARDS WEAR RESISTANCE AND POLISHING RESISTANCE. THE CURVE IS BASED ON AN ANALYSIS OF THE RELATION BETWEEN WEAR RESISTANCE AND RESISTANCE TO POLISHING OF AGGREGATES USING DATA CONCERNED WITH THE INFLUENCE OF MACROTEXTURE AND MICROTEXTURE ON WET SURFACE FRICTION, USING MEASUREMENTS OF BREAKING DISTANCE IN STOPPING AND MINIMUM RADIUS OF CURVATURE IN CORNERING. /TRRL/
