ROAD TRAFFIC EDUCATION AND THE KFV FROM THE TEACHER'S POINT OF VIEW

THIS INVESTIGATION CONCERNS A PILOT STUDY IN WHICH 123 QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO AUSTRIAN TEACHERS WERE ANALYZED (47 PER CENT PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS, 36 PER CENT UPPER SECONDARY AND TECHNICAL SCHOOL TEACHERS AND 17 PER CENT LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS). ALMOST EVERY TEACHER QUESTIONED SHOWED AN EXTREMELY POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS TRAFFIC EDUCATION AS A SUBJECT. THE RESULTS INDICATE A RELATIVELY LARGE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN AN IDEALIZED POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND REAL POSITIVE ENGAGEMENT IN PRACTICE, IN WHICH THE FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY OF SELF-INITIATED TRAFFIC EDUCATION TEACHING IS INFLUENCED BY NUMEROUS FACTORS. RESULTS APPEAR TO SUPPORT THE RECENT ATTEMPTS TO ESTABLISH LEGAL CONTROL OVER TRAFFIC EDUCATION AS A SEPARATE SUBJECT FOR TEACHING. THE INTRODUCTION OF TRAFFIC EDUCATION TRAINING INTO TEACHERS' TRAINING IS DISCUSSED HERE. FURTHER EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENTS FOR TEACHERS, SET UP BY THE KFV (VEHICLE DRIVERS' ASSOCIATION) FOR TRAFFIC EDUCATION ARE CONSIDERED TO BE A SUCCESS. THE KFV WAS KNOWN TO PRACTICALLY ALL TEACHERS - TWO-THIRDS OF THEM MAKE USE OF THE WORK SHEETS PUBLISHED BY KFV. COMPARED WITH THE EMOTIONALLY VERY POSITIVE RATING OF THE KFV, RELEVANT CONCRETE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT KFV AND ITS ORGANIZATION FRAMEWORK WAS SOMEWHAT LACKING.
