MEASUREMENTS OF COURSE STABILITY WITH RANDOM STEERING ANGLES
KURSHALTUNGSMESSUNGEN BEI REGELLOSEM LENKWINKEL
THE SUBJECT OF THIS PAPER IS THE DETERMINATION OF THE YAWING FREQUENCY OF MOTOR VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THE APPLICATION OF RANDOM STEERING ANGLE FUNCTIONS. FIRST THERE IS A COMPILATION OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THEORETICAL FUNDAMENTALS. THE APPLICATION OF THE THEORY IS FIRST DEMONSTRATED BY MEANS OF A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE FOLLOWED BY A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS. THE APPLICABILITY OF THE PROPOSED METHOD OF USING RANDOM GUIDANCE FUNCTIONS IS PROVED BY THE RESULTS OF THE DRIVING TESTS. THE MAIN ADVANTAGE COMPARED WITH TESTS USING DEFINITE STEERING FUNCTIONS (RAMP, SINE WAVE) IS THE MUCH SIMPLER TEST PROCEDURE. ONE DISADVANTAGE IS THE RELATIVELY HIGH COST OF EVALUATION. THIS EXPENSE HOWEVER MUST BE INCURRED ONLY ONCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPUTER PROGRAM. THE TIME REQUIRED FOR THE ACTUAL PROCESSING OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA IS RELATIVELY SHORT. THE EXPERIENCES GATHERED UP TO NOW CONCERNING THE USE OF THE METHOD ARE NOT YET SUFFICIENT AND ARE TO BE AUGMENTED IN THE FUTURE. THE NEED IS TO CONDUCT COMPARATIVE TESTS ON A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES USING DIFFERENT DRIVERS. WORK MUST ALSO BE CONTINUED ON THE INTERPRETATION OF THE VARIATION OF YAWING FREQUENCY AND THE SIGNIFICANCE AS CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING THE LATERAL DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF VEHICLES.
