SATURATED AIR TECHNIQUES FOR DETERMING THE ABSORPTION OF AGGREGATES
A LABORATORY METHOD IS DESCRIBED FOR DETERMINING THE ABSORPTION OF AGGREGATES BY THE SATURATED AIR TECHNIQUE; THE EFFECTS OF SUCH FACTORS AS SAMPLE DEPTH AND RATE OF AIR FLOW ARE INVESTIGATED. THIS METHOD IS MUCH MORE ACCURATE AND SIMPLE, AND A CONSIDERABLE IMPROVEMENT ON THE SLOWER (STANDARD) METHODS PREVIOUSLY USED. AN ACCELERATED METHOD FOR FINE AGGREGATES AND A COMPLETELY AUTOMATIC TEST FOR COARSE OR FINE AGGREGATES ARE DESCRIBED AND ILLUSTREATED. PERFORMANCE CURVES ARE GIVEN FOR DRYING AND ABSORPTION VALUES OF AIR FLOWS, ABSORPTION CHARACTERISTICS AND VARIATIONS OF WEIGHT WITH TIME FOR DIFFERENT DEPTHS OF SAMPLE. DIAGRAMS ARE GIVEN FOR ASSEMBLY OF THE NECESSARY APPARATUS AND AN APPENDIX DESCRIBES, STEP-BY-STEP, THE METHOD OF OPERATION. /TRRL/
