IT IS TO BE EXPECTED THAT IN FUTURE VEHICLES WILL BE EQUIPPED WITH BRAKING FORCE REGULATORS, I.E. THAT WHEEL LOCKING WILL BE ELIMINATED. FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THESE TYPES OF BRAKE THE COEFFICIENT OF SLIDING IS NOT AN ADEQUATE CRITERION FOR ADHESION BETWEEN TYRE AND ROAD. USING THE NEW UNIVERSAL FRICTION METER IT IS INTENDED TO DETERMINE, AS WELL AS THE COEFFICIENT OF SLIDING, THE TYRE-ROAD CONTACT UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS. FOR EXAMPLE, FOR SAFE DRIVING THE ADHESION BEHAVIOUR WHEN THE WHEEL IS RUNNING AT AN INCLINATION OF 4 DEGREES AND THERE IS 20 PERCENT BRAKING SLIP IS OF INTEREST. THIS WILL RESULT IN A CRITERION BEING DETERMINED FOR SAFE HANDLING DURING BRAKING ON A BEND. WITH THE UNIVERSAL FRICTION METER IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE TO MEASURE WITH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SLIP. DRIVING TESTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT AND THE MECHANICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE UNIVERSAL FRICTION METER TESTED; THESE INCLUDE: MEASURED WHEEL BRAKE, HYDROSTATIC DRIVE, WHEEL LIFTING AND LOADING DEVICE, WETTING DEVICE. IN A SECOND SECTION OF THE WORK IT IS INTENDED TO OPERATE AND CALIBRATE THE MEASURING POINTS ON THE EQUIPMENT. FINALLY IN PRELIMINARY TESTS THE INDIVIDUAL MEASURING COMPONENTS ARE TO BE DETERMINED AND SUPPLEMENTED BY MEASUREMENTS ON THE ROAD.
