FROM THE HIGH NUMBER OF HIGH STRENGTH STEELS COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE, WHICH ARE GENERALLY SMELTED BY TWO DIFFERENT METHODS (NORMALLY HEATED AND WATER-MODIFIED), TWO TYPES WERE SELECTED WHICH ARE DESIGNATED AS STEEL 47 NORMALLY HEATED AND STEEL 70 WATER-MODIFIED. THE BASIC MATERIAL AND THE WELDED CONNECTIONS HAVE TO BE TESTED STATICALLY AND DYNAMICALLY. 1 - STATIC TESTS: WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ULTIMATE STRAIN ON TRANSVERSE SAMPLES ALL CONDITIONS WERE MET AS LONG AS ATTENTION WAS PAID TO THE REQUIRED PREHEATING, THE CONDUCTION OF HEAT ETC DURING WELDING. THESE CONDITIONS HAVE TO BE ADOPTED IN THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THESE STEELS. 2 - DURABILITY TESTS: AS THE STEEL MANUFACTURERS STILL PROVIDE INFORMATION ON ALTERATIONS TO THE WELDING DATES OF HIGH-STRENGTH STEELS, THE DURABILITY TESTS HAVE NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED. THE TESTS CARRIED OUT SO FAR INDICATE THAT THE RESULTS WILL PROBABLY BE NO BETTER THAN WITH STEEL 52-3.
