ESTUDIO PREVIO DE TERRENOS. AUTOPISTA MADRID-BADAJOZ. TRAMO: SANTA OLALLA-NAVALMORAL DE LA MATA
THIS PRELIMINARY SITE SURVEY INVESTIGATION WAS INTENDED TO PROVIDE INFORMATION FOR POSSIBLE ALIGNMENTS. FOLLOWING THE INITIAL PHOTO-INTERPRETATION AND SURVEY OF THE AREA, THE DATA WERE RECORDED ON A LITHOLOGICAL AND STRUCTURAL MAP AT A SCALE OF 1:50000. ALSO REPRESENTED TO A SCALE OF 1:200000 WERE DIAGRAMS OF LITHOLOGICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL DATA, SOIL MECHANICS INFORMATION AND DETAILS OF THE UPPER GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS. THIN SLICE PETROGRAPHIC STUDIES WERE MADE OF ROCK SAMPLES. THE SECTION IS DIVIDED INTO THREE ZONES: (1) FLAT AREAS WITH RECENT DEPOSITS MAINLY OF GRANULAR MATERIAL; LOCALIZED PROBLEMS OF EROSION AND FLOODING; PERMEABILITY IS HIGH AND LEVELS OF CALCIFICATION ARE FOUND OCCASIONALLY; THERE IS SOME DEPOSITS OF MIOCENE SILTY SANDS. (2) ZONE CONTAINING MORE PRONOUNCED SLOPES THAT ARE CHARACTERIZED BY A GRANITIC-METAMORPHIC ENVIRONMENT ALTERNATING WITH ALLUVIAL SOILS WHICH SOFTEN THE RELIEF. (3) ZONE LESS EXTENSIVE WITHOUT RECENT FORMATIONS COMPOSED BASICALLY OF SLATE AND QUARTZITE FORMATIONS. THE ROCKS FOUND ARE GENERALLY USABLE AND ONLY VERY RARELY UNSTABLE, THE SURFACING BEING OF LESSER IMPORTANCE. BORROW MATERIAL CAN BE OBTAINED FROM HIGH-QUALITY DETRITUS SEDIMENT COMPOSED OF SANDS WITH A SILTY OR SILTY-CLAYEY MATRIX; THERE ARE ALSO COLLUVIAL SOILS AND ALLUVIAL CONES. WORKABLE DEPOSITS PRESENT INCLUDE IN ORDER OF QUALITY: (A) DOLOMITES AND LIMESTONES, NOT VERY WIDESPREAD, UNFORTUNATELY; (B) GRANITES, AND (C) QUARTZITE.
