THE PAVEMENT DESIGN METHOD DESCRIBED IS BASED ON AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE BASIC STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MATERIAL, ITS APPLIED LOAD/DEFLECTION PROPERTIES AND FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR. THE APPLIED LOAD/DEFLECTION AND FATIGUE FUNCTIONS OBTAINED EXPERIMENTALLY ARE THE SUBJECT OF A THEORETICAL RELATION WHICH GIVES A COMBINED FUNCTION. SOME PARAMETERS OF THIS FUNCTION ARE MODIFIED FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. THUS THE THICKNESS FUNCTION OBTAINED DEPENDS ON THE SOIL-CEMENT AND SUBBASE PROPERTIES, ON THE LOADS AND THEIR CYCLES OF APPLICATION.
