NON-PERIODICAL FORCES AND MOMENTS ON SHIP IN WAVES
A method to determine the average non-periodic hydrodynamic forces and moments exerted on a ship in waves is advanced. The calculating formulas are derived for stationary and moving ships among waves in deep and shallow water. The results of N.E. Kochin, M.D. Haskind, T.H. Havelock, H. Mauro, J.N. Newman are obtained from the authors analysis as particular cases. A very simple formula is proposed for practical evaluation of the added resistance of a ship in oblique waves. The results can be applied to ships in irregular waves.
