SYMPOSIUM ON BRAKING SYSTEMS IN RAILWAYS: STATE OF THE ART OF THE DEVELOPMENTS IN SYNTHETIC MATERIALS FOR RAILWAY BRAKE LININGS

SIMPOSIO SOBRE SISTEMAS DE FRENADO EN FERROCARRIL: SITUACION DE DESARROLLO DE MATERIALES SINTETICOS PARA GUARNICIONES DE FRENO DE FERROCARRILES

THIS IS A GENERAL REPORT ON THE DEVELOPMENTS IN SYNTHETIC MATERIALS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF BRAKE LININGS. WITH SHOE BRAKES, MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS ARE 140 KM/H FOR LIGHT VEHICLES AND 120 KM/H FOR THE HEAVIEST VEHICLES. IT WAS SHOWN TO BE ADVANTAGEOUS IF DISC BRAKES AND SHOE BRAKES WERE COMBINED. THERE ARE DIFFERENT LININGS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF APPLICATION. DEVELOPMENTS IN THIS FIELD REQUIRE CLOSE COOPERATION BETWEEN RAILWAY MANUFACTURERS, RAILWAY ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITIES, BRAKE MANUFACTURERS AND LINING PRODUCERS.
