A GUIDE FOR HANDLING AND PLACING CHEMCOMP CEMENT CONCRETE- THE SHRINKAGE COMPENSATING CEMENT
AN "EXPANSIVE" PORTLAND CEMENT DESIGNED TO COMPENSATE FOR THE TENSILE STRESSES PRODUCED DURING DRYING SHRINKAGE OF CONCRETE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. IT HAS THE CAPACITY TO ELIMINATE OR REDUCE DRYING SHRINKAGE CRACKS IF THE NECESSARY DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES ARE EXERCISED. THE CHEMISTRY OF HYDRATION, THE DURABILITY OF CHEMCOMP, AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT WORKS, IS DESCRIBED. THE USE OF THE COMPOUND WITH REINFORCING STEEL IS DISCUSSED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR THE MIX DESIGN PROCEDURE USING THE CHEMCOMP CEMENT. OTHER ASPECTS REVIEWED INCLUDE WATER REQUIREMENTS, PLACEMENT, FINISHING, CURING, AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE CEMENT. PLASTIC SHRINKAGE CRACKS AND THE ADVANTAGES IN USING THE MATERIAL ARE ALSO OUTLINED.
