THE SOROKIN HYPOTHESIS IS USED TO CALCULATE THE INFLUENCE OF THE INTERNAL DAMPING OF THE MATERIAL ON THE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS OF AN ARTICULATED BEAM UNDER VIBRATING AXIAL LOAD. IT IS SUFFICIENT TO USE A LINEAR EQUATION OF THE MOVEMENT IF THE LIMITS OF THE ZONE OF INSTABILITY ARE STUDIED. THE AMPLITUDES OF LATERAL VIBRATION IN THE ZONE OF INSTABILITY MAY BE CALCULATED SOLELY ON THE BASIS OF A NON-LINEAR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION. DIAGRAMS ILLUSTRATE THE INFLUENCE OF INTERNAL DAMPING.
