EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF CREEP OF HARDENED PORTLAND CEMENT PASTE AT VARIABLE WATER CONTENT

ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE DU FLUAGE DE LA PATE DE CIMENT PORTLAND DURCI A DIFFERENTES TENEURS EN EAU

CYLINDRICAL SAMPLES WITH EXTREMELY THIN SIDES (0,7 MM) WERE SUBJECTED TO CREEP TESTS UNDER AXIAL LOAD AND TORSIONAL STRESS WITH A VIEW TO ENSURING SUFFICIENTLY QUICK EXCHANGE OF MOISTURE WITH THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT. VARIATIONS IN THE RELATIVE MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURE WERE MADE GRADUALLY IN A CHAMBER, THE CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE OF WHICH WAS PROGRAMMED SO AS TO MINIMIZE THE DIFFERENCES OF INTERSTITIAL MOISTURE IN THE SIDE OF THE SAMPLE, AND THE RESIDUAL STRESSES AND MICRO-CRACKS OBSERVED AT THE SAME TIME. A STUDY WAS MADE OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF PREVIOUS MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS INCLUDING DRYING BEFORE AND DURING THE EXPERIMENT, AND VARIATIONS IN MOISTURE DURING THE TEST AND DURING RECOVERY.
