TABLES FOR EMBANKMENT LOADS ON PIPES LAID IN SYMMETRICAL AND ASYMMETRICAL TRENCHES " CHARTS GIVING THE SERIES TO BE USED FOR SYMMETRICAL TRENCHES

NUMEROUS RECENT SEWER NETWORKS ARE DESIGNED ACCORDING TO THE SEPARATION SYSTEM WHICH SPECIFIES TWO SEPARATE DUCTS INSTALLED, VERY OFTEN, AT DIFFERENT LEVELS. A SINGLE ASYMMETRICAL TRENCH CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THE EVALUATION OF EMBANKMENT LOADS IN SUCH A TRENCH IS VERY SPECIAL AND CAN BE CARRIED OUT WITH THE HELP OF A NEW THEORY OUTLINED IN APPENDIX 1; THIS THEORY IS THE ONLY ONE COMPATIBLE WITH MARSTON THEORY. PART 1 OF THIS REPORT USES CALCULATION TABLES TO DIRECTLY DETERMINE THE LOAD IMPOSED BY THE EMBANKMENT ON THE UPPER OR LOWER DUCTS LAID IN AN ASYMMETRICAL TRENCH. THE SYMMETRICAL TRENCH IS A SPECIAL CASE OF THE ASYMMETRICAL TRENCH (THE HEIGHT OF THE SHALLOWEST TRENCH IS THEN EQUAL TO ZERO). CALCULATION TABLES FOR THE LOWER DUCTS THEREFORE ALSO GIVE THE EMBANKMENT LOAD APPLIED ON THE DUCTS INSTALLED IN SYMMETRICAL TRENCHES ASSUMING H1 = 0. PART 2 GIVES CHARTS TO USE WHEN DUCTS ARE INSTALLED IN A SYMMETRICAL TRENCH AS A FUNCTION OF THE EMBANKMENT HEIGHT, TYPE OF SURCHARGE AND CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL OF THE DUCT (ORDINARY OR REINFORCED CONCRETE). IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE FROM THE EMBANKMENT LOAD AND THE TABLE OF ROLLING LOADS TO DETERMINE THE SERIES TO UTILIZE FOR LOWER AND UPPER DUCTS INSTALLED IN ASYMMETRICAL TRENCHES DEPENDING ON INSTALLATION CONDITIONS.
