ELASTIC MODULI OF A LEAN AND A PAVEMENT QUALITY CONCRETE UNDER UNIAXIAL TENSION AND COMPRESSION

AFTER GIVING DETAILS OF THE MIX DESIGN, PREPARATION OF SAMPLES, TEST METHOD AND EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE, THE AUTHORS GIVE THE RESULT OF DEFORMATION MEASUREMENTS MADE DURING A SERIES OF TESTS ON A LEAN AND A PAVEMENT CONCRETE CARRIED OUT TO COMPARE THE ELASTIC MODULI UNDER DIRECT TENSION AND COMPRESSION. FOR EACH TYPE OF CONCRETE, DIFFERENCES SMALLER THAN 10% WERE FOUND BETWEEN THE ELASTIC MODULI IN TENSION AND COMPRESSION. IN THE TENSILE TESTS, THE DEVIATION FROM LINEARITY SHOWING MICROCRACKING, OCCURRED FOR A LOWER PERCENTAGE OF THE ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH FOR THE TYPE OF CONCRETE WITH THE HIGHEST CEMENT CONTENT. THE ELASTIC MODULUS VALUES WERE SHOWN TO BE HIGHER FOR LEAN CONCRETE THAN FOR PAVEMENT CONCRETE.
