USE OF AUTOMATIC CALCULATIONS FOR QUANTITATIVE MINERALOGICAL ANALYSES

UTILISATION DU CALCUL AUTOMATIQUE EN ANALYSE MINERALOGIQUE QUANTITATIVE

THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES A PROGRAM FOR ANALYZING CLAY AS WELL AS ROCK AND HARDENED CONCRETE. THIS PROGRAM IS BASED ON THE USE OF AN INTERNAL FILE THAT CODIFIES EACH MINERAL SPECIES AND ITS CHEMICAL FORMULA. IT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE CHEMICAL ANALYSIS, THERMOGRAVIMETRIC DATA, RESULTS OF X-RAY DIFFRACTION ANALYSIS AND DIFFERENTIAL THERMAL ANALYSIS BY MEANS OF THE CODE OF MINERAL SPECIES. FURTHERMORE, IT TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION CONTENTS OF THE MINERAL SPECIES ALREADY DETERMINED WITH A PHYSICAL METHOD, FOR EXAMPLE. THE USE OF THESE DATA IS RECURRENT THUS ENABLING A MINERALOGICAL ANALYSIS TO BE COMPLETED IN TWO OR THREE RUNS ON THE MACHINE. THE SIMULTANEOUS CONDUCT OF APPROXIMATELY 10 ANALYSES ON A MODERN COMPUTER, FOR EXAMPLE IRIS 80 COMPUTER, REQUIRES ONLY 1 TO 2/100 MINUTE PER RUN. THE EXAMPLE OF A CARBONIFEROUS SHALE COMPRISING SOME TEN INGREDIENTS IS GIVEN AND DISCUSSED.
